Iron Brian

Iron Brian visited about 2 weeks ago and we went to his show. They taught us about healthy food. There were four groups and they were milk and dairy products, cereals and bread, red meat and white meat, and fruit and vegetables.
Then we did prizes and if you got a group correct you got a prize. Iron Brian then taught us his song and his actions to it. He told lots of jokes and did lots of silly things.

Then he declared a dance competition. He gave the winning dancers a prize and that was a hat. The other dancers got a slap band.

At the end we got to have burgers, and that was our favourite part of the day. Some people picked the lettuce and tomato out of their burger.

Awesome Marae Visit

We approached the gateway.  A man walked down to us to make sure we knew how the whole powhiri process went.  We waited for the call.  As we heard the call we walked closer to the Marae's wharenui.  We went inside and waited to sit down.  We listened to the speeches; after the speeches we sung a waiata.  We had a hongi and then it came to my absolute favourite part, kai.  I couldn't wait to learn more about the Marae.  I was a bit jealous that the Year 5's got to stay for the night.

After morning tea we did some fun activities like learning a new song and learning about rakau.  Some people even got to do flax weaving.  The activities were difficult but fun.

We ate our lunch, yum!  After lunch we went to a rock that was the landing place and whaling station of the Europeans.  There was still burnt rock where they boiled the blubber.

When we came back to the Marae it was unfortunately time for the Year 4's and 6's to leave.  I learnt interesting facts and I want to learn more.

Pet Day

On Friday the 23rd of September Bradford school had a pet day.  Regan, Jaidyn and Katelyn were in charge of the music, the order that the animals went down the cat walk, and the prizes. Some of the prizes were note pad with calculator built in, dog food, water bottle, etc....

There were some very strange pets, including;  Lizards, pigs, sea monkeys, and some very imaginative creations like Sam's dog, Jacob's rugby ball pet and lots of other things too.

The first competition was the best tricks. There were lots of cool tricks so every one who entered got a packet of dog food.

The second competition was on the best dressed. Some pets wore butterfly wings, an all blacks shirt, and pirate costumes!

The last competition was on the most unusual pet. A lizard won that. It had an amazing blue mouth.

We had a really cool pet day!

Gymnastics

We had our first session of gymnastics with Ginny today and it was fun.  We got the mats out and we had to do lots of balancing.

Here Alex is balancing on his bottom and keeping his feet off the ground.

Here Jeannie and Katelyn have their feet together and they are holding hands and leaning back as far as they can
This is a picture of Katelyn P balancing on one hand and one foot.  She stayed like this for ages.
This activity was fun.  We had to put our feet together and then push hard and lift our bottoms off the ground.

Gymnastics with Ginny was fun.

Awesome Scientists

Last week we had a visit from two scientists, Esther and Matt.  They came to do some experiments about sound.  When we got to Room 1 we were put into three groups.

In the first group we had to make a bongo drum with a tube and a balloon.  We had to stretch the balloon over the top of the tube.  It was quite tricky because the balloons were a bit small.  When you got it over it sounded like a drum.

In the next group we had to cut a straw and then when we blowed into it it made a sound.  It was the vibrations that made the sound.  I took mine home and mum said that if I didn't stop blowing it, she would take it off me.
Did you know that you can whisper through a balloon and the person listening on the other side can hear you?

Matt had some liquid nitrogen that was really, really cold.  It was so cold that he froze a banana.  He also poured some on to a balloon and all the air went out of the balloon.  As the balloon warmed back up, the air came back into the balloon.  It was really cool.

Esther and Matt made some ice-cream for us with the liquid nitrogen.  It had chocolate chips in it.  It was really nice and creamy.  Esther said it was better than real ice cream because the liquid nitrogen freezes it so fast that it doesn't get a chance to get icy, like other ice cream.  It was really yummy.

Dancing Like The Stars!

Dancing Like The Stars!
The last few weeks we have been getting taught how to do a dance called Ceroc, so we can perform to people around Dunedin. The people who are teaching us are John and Raewyn who teach dancing for a living. Here are some photos from our lesson and of John and Raewyn doing a demonstration.

The Police

On 23 March 2011 some police dog handlers came to our school. Their names were Brett and Andrew. They came with their dogs. They had toys for the dogs and Brett took one and ran off with it, then Andrew let go of the dogs collar and the dog went and sniffed and found Brett and the dog started to bark at Brett. Then Andrew put some hard stuff on his hands then he let go of the dogs collar and pretended to run away. The dog just came up and bit Andrews arms.
